Taster sessions
For beginners who just want to try out throwing clay I offer two-hour evening sessions on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 7pm to 9pm to learn the basics of how to centre and throw clay to make a pot. The aim of this session is to concentrate on learning the basics and therefore pots made will be recycled at the end of the evening back into clay that can be reused. The entire process of making a pot involves throwing the pot, turning or trimming into a final shape when it has dried to ‘leather hard’ stage, fully drying and bisque firing to 1000C and finally glazing and then firing a second time to 1260C.
If you enjoy the taster session and want to make some finished pieces to take home I offer a short course of three evenings (see below) which will take you through the entire process of throwing, turning and glazing from start to finish.
Short courses (3 evenings)
For those with some experience (the minimum requirement is being able to centre clay and make a small pot) I offer a three evening course (total time 6 hours). Students on this course will cover throwing, turning and glazing over the three sessions and aim to take home at least two finished pots, more depending on experience.
General Information
All courses are held in a fully equipped modern pottery. All materials are included in the price. Please bring a generous apron and a notepad and pencil. The maximum number of students on a session is four and tuition is across the whole two hours. Clay is supplied ready to throw to enable students to get the maximum value from the time available and a further fifteen minutes is allowed at the end of the evening for clearing up so that time does not eat into learning time.
Taster sessions are £65. Three-session courses are £180 inclusive of firing and all materials.

I have been messing around with clay for about 25 years now, off and on, in my spare time. Here I am throwing a stoneware platter on the wheel.
Many thanks to my dear friend Yasmin for videoing.
Enjoy!
